Brilliance in Boston!

2012-01-24 12:26:03 AM

Sunday saw Hallam attend our first race of the season at the Boston Head and we certainly started as we mean to continue!

Many club members who attended were experiencing a race for the first time and certainly seemed to enjoy themselves even with the very early start!

The womens IM3 4+ performed impressively and scored a competitive time under some ferocious coxing from Charlotte Fisher. There were no other crews in the category (rumour has it, they had heard Charlotte coxing and been frightened away) which meant that the girls were racing for time only.

Unfortunately, we witnessed some atrocious weather with incredibly high winds which resulted in the cancellation of Division 2 and we had to scratch several crews. However, the wind died down enough for the two mens fours to race a reduced distance (due to weather)in the afternoon. Many of the guys were racing for the first time and should be very proud of their performance. Additionally, Max Partridge and Matt Francis did really well coxing competively for the first time. However, the great success of the day was one of the Mens NOV 4+ which won the category, beating the competition comfortably by 25 seconds.

Everyone finished the day in high spirits. There is still much to work on but our improved training has certainly paid off. Lets hope we continue our success on Saturday at the White Rose Head in York.

COXES! YOUR CLUB NEEDS YOU!

2011-12-24 5:42:25 PM

We are always looking for new coxes and are entering our real race season. Whether you are a current member or looking to join, we will get you out coxing on the water and train you up so that you have the experience and knowledge to lead a boat to victory in a race. The smaller and louder you are the better! This is a good opportunity to shout at bigger people and tell them what to do!

If anyone has any interest in coxing please contact club Chairman Will Jeffries at: a8004470@my.shu.ac.uk

Semester 1

2011-12-24 5:29:48 PM

Hallam rowing has made some incredible progression over Semester 1 of the 2011/2012 season, as a club and on individual terms. Members have worked hard in their training which has resulted in fitness and technical skills improving rapidly with many novices from both the men’s and women’s squads now competing for places in senior crews.

BUCS Indoors at Hull brought some fantastic results for Hallam rowing and as our first official competition it also brought with it a fantastic show of team spirit and unity. Congratulations to those of you who won or achieved 2nd and 3rd in your races and to Jo and Louise who came 1st and 2nd in the Women’s Heavyweight category. Both our Damflask training camp and ‘Damflask Small Boats’ were a lot of fun and showed some interesting results! Additionally, those of you who attended the Plum Pudding Regatta will know we all had a great time in some not-so-great weather!

Keep fit over the Christmas period and enjoy your time off. Let’s come back to Hallam Rowing Club refreshed and prepared to push ourselves to achieve those winning race results.

Damflask Small Boats

2011-11-16 11:39:51 AM

Due to the club now being unable to attend York Small Boats. We will be holding our own Damflask Small Boats Head race on the dam consisting of timed lengths in all boats. Lets make sure everyone available attends particularly those crews that were supposed to race.

We will be leaving for 8am and aim to be back by 11am. For most of you it will give you the opportunity to get used to race procedures in a friendly yet competitive environment!

Training Camp

2011-10-25 11:48:35 PM

Training camp at the dam this weekend (28th-30th October). Full of water sessions, ergs and runs.

See the forum for details.

Strength & Conditioning

2011-10-17 12:42:56 PM

The Strength and Conditioning taster session will be held at 7pm, Tuesday 18th October. The session is free to all club members and will last for 2 hours. It will be a good opportunity for those of you who do not already own a High Performance SportHallam membership to see what is involved in the HPH suite and what you can expect to gain for the year.

Circuits will also be running so those wishing to attend after S&C can do so.
