OVERVIEW:
An oarsome time awaits you with Sheffield Hallam Rowing Club! We are more than just terrible puns – whether you are an experienced rower or new to a sport which demands fitness, dedication and good fun!
The team are devoted to getting the best from all new members and ensuring that you fit in with us. The result could see you compete in head races and regattas up and down the country and move to a level of fitness which brings out your best performances. Our “novice” crews, men and women, represent Hallam exceptionally well, even at the large regattas, and have earned trophies and medals through the year.
We are not about competition or elitism, we are a club for the individual and quite happy if you prefer to row for enjoyment or fitness. Skill and fitness training can be as tough as you want and there is a full support programme to help you achieve your rich potential through your time at Hallam. But always remember, sport is for enjoyment and that’s what we offer at Sheffield Hallam Rowing!
TRAINING, COACHING AND RACING:
Club training each week consists of land-based rowing sessions as well as circuits on a Tuesday evening, based at university. Of course, we wouldn’t have circuits without a few drinks to follow in the pub! Circuit training is can be completed at whatever pace you like, so caters for all levels of ability.
Once the swim tests have been completed we will train on the water at Damflask reservoir every weekend, and mid-week dependent upon availability. Here, we teach people how to row and have fun on the water, getting lots of fresh air. Those members that want to compete will have plenty of opportunities to race other clubs and universities on and off the water throughout the year. Extra land training is advised and captains will provide training programmes. All seniors are eager to help new members on rowing machines, weights and additional training.
We have many of our committee members trained as Level 2 rowing coach’s. In addition, we receive volunteer coaching and training from Ian Allen (Sport Hallam). The boat house also shares a powerboat which we use for coaching and can be used with video analysis.
SOCIALS:By no means are we all about training. We train hard and we party harder! We have a calendar packed full of social goodness in order to fulfil all of your party cravings. There is a very friendly atmosphere within our rowing club and everyone is welcomed along. BOAT HOUSE:Damflask reservoir is set on the edge of the peak district, just a few miles out of Sheffield, easy to drive to, or if you fancy the extra challenge join some of us on bikes. The reservoir is approximately 1800m long when full, situated in a picturesque location, and surrounded by lots of wildlife. We share our boat house facilities with our friendly rivals from City of Sheffield Rowing Club, and Sheffield University Rowing Club. |
